18 Spectrum Avenue, Rainbow Beach

Imagine 25 years ago. . .
. . . before development and the invasion of popular tourism and you will get an idea of Rainbow Beach – a tiny laid back town with loads of natural attractions. Located 3 hours north of Brisbane, Rainbow Beach gets its name from the sandcliffs that stretch for over a kilometre along its uncrowded, white beach. These ‘coloured sands’ are part of an Aboriginal legend that tells of Yiningie – the spirit of the gods represented by a rainbow – who was killed in a fight over a woman and crashed into the cliffs, forever colouring them with his spirits.
Rainbow Beach is fast becoming the gateway to Fraser Island but also has much to offer in its own right.
10 MINUTES TO WORLD HERITAGE FRASER ISLAND
If you’re thinking about exploring Fraser Island, here’s some information to help you decide whether you depart from Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay. . .
The ferry crossing is much shorter from Rainbow Beach and drops you on the Eastern side of the Island, where all Fraser Island attractions are located. This saves you travelling across the island on the inland tracks, which you’d have to do if you caught the ferry (45 minutes) from Hervey Bay. |
|
The Great Sandy National Park invites you into a 4 wheel drive adventure-land of ancient and tropical rainforests, picturesque freshwater lakes and coloured sand dunes. Visit the outstanding attractions such as the World famous Coloured Sands, Carlo Sand Blow (a handgliders dream) with postcard views, Captain Cook’s Double Island Point with its magnificent ocean views. Look put for dolphins, turtles, rays and migrating whales. The park is full of pristine bush walking tracks and picnic facilities all within walking distances of Fraser’s on Rainbow Beach Backpackers Hostel.
